The Staycation That Made Us Rethink Home

Sometimes the best getaway is closer than you think. From a cozy hotel in Vernon to local restaurants and relaxing activities, a staycation can help you recharge, reset, and focus on yourself without leaving the area.

We spent a weekend at Quality Inn Vernon and realized a little escape goes a long way especially this time of year.

Do you really need space from your surroundings, or are you just in need of a reset? Let’s be honest.

In the middle of all the hustle and the season of feelings and coziness, it is easy to get caught up in your own head. The outside world is slowing down while you are hyper-focused on the little things inside. Season changes are tough for so many reasons, and a lot of the pressure we feel is the pressure we put on ourselves. As the air gets colder and our homes get warmer, it somehow makes the emptiness feel bigger.

How far are you in life? Do you have the people you love around you? Who do you love? Why are you doing what you do? Why does moving the TV feel like a big decision? How is your team doing? Are your friends going out? Work feels heavier and harder to get up for, especially if you are isolated or not exactly where you imagined yourself. Cozy seasons can hit hard.

But it does not have to be that way. Here is how we planned a local getaway at a nearby hotel and actually felt like ourselves again.

Book It, Sip Wine, Reset: Why You Deserve This Staycation

A staycation? Yup. Maybe a little wine, maybe a meal that is not just a frozen something from the fridge or the usual takeout from nearby spots or Uber Eats deals. The truth is, sometimes leaving where you are is the only way to get perspective. Groups that call themselves “community” can actually drain energy, and that is what happens in the wrong ones.

Whether someone has lived in a place forever or just moved, escaping doesn’t have to mean going far. A quick getaway near Kelowna offers a new energy while still being close enough to make the next day shift without any awkwardness. Vernon. A staycation at a hotel like Quality Inn comes with continental breakfast, a pool, and clean service without running into people you know, all without breaking the bank.

It is the perfect reset. Here is why everyone needs to book some time for themselves. This is facts.

The Art of Pausing: Reclaim Your Energy and Inner Joy

Feeling wiped out? Maybe it is because no one is hitting pause for themselves. Taking time for you is not selfish. It is everything. Here is why putting yourself first changes everything.

  1. You cannot be the full version of yourself if you do not make time for yourself.
  2. Pausing, breathing and enjoying the moment brings more happy vibes later.
  3. Do not let everyone else run your schedule. The more elusive and high luxury you feel, the more energy comes your way.
  4. Stepping away from responsibilities reconnects you to your inner child. Emotions and who you are are meant to be felt.
  5. Keeping your bucket full means others cannot drain your energy as easily.

A Mini Vernon Getaway That Made Us Forget Tomorrow

Quality Inn in Vernon was a vibe. The goal was simple: somewhere affordable, comfortable and with a feeling of luxury. The staff treated everyone like royalty. Everyone was kind, the rooms were spotless and the amenities were perfect. With so many local restaurants nearby and season-themed activities that cost nothing, it was the perfect place to breathe and stop thinking about what tomorrow might bring. Family run and owned since 2013, it felt like home while removing all the negative energy that often comes along.

What should you pack for a staycation? First, no work. Leave it at home. Work is what reminds us how transactional the world can feel. Your energy is valuable. The more energy you put into a place or situation, the more it lingers. Leaving negativity out of the picture while you reset actually brings more perspective. Let the room breathe and just enjoy your own mind for a moment. You will get more done when you are fully present rather than being half in and half out of your own sanctuary.

Second, leave toxic relationships behind. This is not the time to rekindle anything. Surround yourself with genuine love that will not wreck your vibe.

Third, bring self-love essentials. Whether it is food, drinks, a journal or music, this is your time to relax and enjoy yourself. Welcome your inner child. Repeat to yourself: I am happiness. I am joy. I am grateful. Bring perspective and reset fully.

Leave the World Behind and Focus on You This Season

Now staycations do not always have to be somewhere fancy. They can be right in your room, right in your house, or somewhere close by. A friend’s house, a quick getaway from school, or even a sick day from work. Whatever it is, just remember to leave your current world at the door and actually focus on yourself. Do not bring a glass half empty type of vibe. Really work on yourself if you want to disconnect.

It is all about being present with who you are going to be and who you want to be while letting go of struggle. Hard balance, right? Think about it. What makes you feel the best? What smells bring you comfort? What activities make you feel safe? What reminds you of home? Home as in comfort, not the trauma or suppressed emotions from the past. Be present, let yourself feel and understand yourself. This will not happen if you are always on the go.

If you are in the place to go out somewhere and you live in Kelowna, also known as Cult Central, you need escape moments. When we found Quality Inn, it was truly one of the most relaxing moments we have felt in a while.

This is a reminder to take time for yourself this season. Take good care of yourself and stay in places that make you feel at home. Thank you to Quality Inn for hosting us.
